Simmer: From Smoother and Sweet to Sensual and Spicy

Hello everyone! Ova Veugh here and welcome to the debut episode of Claret Conversations.

Usually, when you think of December, you envision cold weather. Select holidays. The savoring of good home-cooked meals. The exchange of presents. The gathering of people, singing, laughing and expressing what they are thankful for.

However, people also desire warmth.

I am excited to introduce two people who I deem Connoisseurs of Sensual Heat. One is known for his Syncopation of Ravishing Intensity. The other is well-known for her contemporary views on relationships and sexuality. Please give a warm welcome to Authors Adonis Mann and Synful Desire.

Adonis and Desire, it is fantastic to have you as my first guests on Claret Conversations. Before we talk turkey about your latest joint project, I would like to offer you a choice of wine.

Adonis: White, if you please.

Desire: White, please.

I will have a bit of hot apple cider myself. I never conduct interviews while tipsy.

Okay, now that I have handed out refreshments, let’s get the show on the road.

My first question is for Adonis.

How did you come up with your preliminary catchphrase “Syncopation of Ravishing Intensity”, and why did that same phrase fit your first short story collection?

Adonis: Well, the “Syncopation of Ravishing Intensity” catchphrase was the brainchild of Author Queen of Spades. You see, many months before the birth of S.O.R.I. I was searching for a catchphrase that would encompass my sapient style of writing as well as the flow of my prose. One day, as we had an Author Mentoring Meeting, we brainstormed several variations of a catchphrase that might serve the purpose. A few words thrown around were “Ravishing” and “Intensity” followed by someone saying “But Adonis there is a certain syncopation in your words.” At that very moment Author Queen of Spades said, “That’s it! Syncopation of Ravishing Intensity! That totally describes you, Adonis.” and there you had it.

As it pertains to “Syncopation of Ravishing Intensity”, a.k.a. S.O.R.I., which story is your favorite as it pertains to the following categories:
a. Readability
b. Characters
c. Intensity
d. Resonance

Adonis: My personal favorite story in S.O.R.I. was “Tyronian Rapture”. Apart from being among the very first stories I wrote for the collection, it somehow took with it a piece of my heart. I find that it has all of the aforementioned variables; readability, characters, intensity and resonance. Although the setting is historical, the way the story is told is very relatable and captivating.

Now, Desire, a question for you.

Since you arrived on the scene, you’ve always touted that “Surrender is Liberation”. What has that meant to you? Is the meaning the same from its conception until now? As your writing evolves, have you ever felt pressured to change it?

Desire: To me, although I apply “Surrender is Liberation” to writing, it is actually a concept that is applicable to all walks of life. In order to function as a physically healthy individual, one must surrender to the process of health, to find liberation in the benefit the process provides. This can also work for the mental, emotional, and spiritual in humanity.

I do not want to digress, so I will stick to speaking about me. I was adamant that I did not want to be constrained by what others defined as my writing style.

Although I burst on the scene writing erotica, I never wanted to be known as the “standard” erotica writer or just to be an author who delved into erotica. Erotica is more than just intensity. It involves sensual intelligence, emotional architecture, anatomical symmetry, along with what to say and when to say it. I swear, to hear someone brag that “anyone can write erotica” makes my skin itch. Sure, one can string obscene words together, but that doesn’t exude erotica or sexiness. It is the other components surrounding the words.

Even though I’ve explored a myriad of genres, “Surrender is Liberation” still applies and means the same. I feel no pressure to change it because it still fits my vision of how I see myself and live my life, both as an author and as a person.

As it pertains to your flash fiction anthology “Amoresels”, which story is your favorite as it pertains to the following categories:
a. Readability
b. Characters
c. Intensity
d. Resonance

Desire:
a. In my opinion, readability goes to “Taste on the Move”. I won’t give much away, except food and hunger.
b. For characters, it would have to be the title story “Amoresels”. The interactions between the hosts Maeve and Dawood along with their invited guests were highly entertaining.
c. For intensity … this is a tough one … but I have to say “Full Circle”. Primarily because of the emotional backstory that drove the action.
d. As it pertains to resonance … another difficult decision … I pick “House of Mirrors”. The way the story came together still leaves me in awe.

Now, a question for you both.

Do you take time to read each other's stories? If so, which one is your personal favorite and why?

Adonis: I absolutely do read Desire’s works. As a matter of fact, she is one of my favorite contemporary romance writers. There is a fanciful groundedness about her style that appeals to me quite a bit. All of Desire’s stories are charismatic and enthralling in their own rights no matter what she writes. I personally have a soft spot for her newer collections called Amoresels. So much so, in fact, that I wrote the Foreword for that collection of micro-shorts. There is a “fetish” for every personal preference and a savoriness for all taste buds. I highly recommend it. It’s a super fun read.

Desire: I do take time to read Adonis' stories. There is a unique melody to his story writing that soothes me. One of my personal favorites is one of his newer selections "Twin Flame Duplicity". Although it is a free offering, there is a level of intensity and intrigue which packs quite a punch.

What made you two decide to collaborate for the first Simmer book?

Adonis: It was Desire that came up with the concept of the first Simmer collaborative based on the original story called “Simmer Sweet” which was a short story she wrote that was initially being given for free to readers. One day she decided that she would make an extended edition of the story and that was when she invited me to be a part of it. I think that her reason to have me collaborate was because I did not have many publications at the time. But, in all actuality, she tells the story much better than I could ever. Thus, I will let her expand now ….

Desire: Donny, I think you actually covered it fully. Adonis was newer than I, and I believed it would give him great exposure.

Okay, back to you Adonis.

How did you segue from your original tagline to your current one? Was the transition gradual or all of a sudden?

Adonis: It was indeed gradual but had more to do with what was going on around me at the time.
You see, the All Authors Authors seemed to all be growing out of their taglines, if you will. The transcendence that had become our collective storytelling styles seemed to beckon a transitioning of taglines—something that explained where we stood now in our writing careers.
It took me longer than most of my brethren to make the transition as I was having difficulty finding something that truly fit.
One day I decided to call a meeting. The focal point was to come up with a tagline that better suited my growth.
We all went back and forth pitching various lines.
Funny enough it took a collective attempt to come up with just the right string of words. Some people felt that “Whimsical” was a great fit for my style, whereas others thought that I was a “Wordsmith”. Others still believed that my writing style took you from earth to something like a Nirvana. Hence the word “Oasis” was selected. The final product was “Wordsmith of Whimsical Oases”.
I find it fitting. 😃

How did the idea blossom to do a continuation of Simmer? Would anyone reading Simmer: Sensual & Spicy have to read Simmer: Smoothe & Sweet to avoid being confused or lost?

Desire: Well, our publisher came up with an updated cover concept and interior design for Simmer: Smoothe & Sweet. This gave me a chance to go through the book. I found myself not only back in Kesha and Teresa's world but also Tommy and Spencer's, imaging what was next for all of them. I suggested the idea to Adonis, and well, here we are! Donny, do you have anything to add, as far as origins?

Adonis: Not at all actually, Desire. I think you pretty much covered it. ðŸ˜€

Desire: I am speaking in reference to my story "The Simmer of Spicy". Since Kesha does a bit of flashback during her narrative, the reading of "Simmer Sweet" is not necessary, but for the full simmering, if you will, I would recommend reading both Simmer books.

Adonis: In my telling of Sensual and Smoothe, it is very important to read the first story in order to understand the second.

Why do you think Whimsical Liberation fit you as a duo?

Desire: I think it encompasses the best of us both: Adonis' way with words and the liberties I take to make the audience "see the emotions".

Adonis: Agreed. The bonus being that it sounded incredibly smooth together, if you would excuse the pun.

Will there be any future projects by Whimsical Liberation as well as any solo ventures? If so, please share.

Desire: We do have a project in the works called “Blinks of Passion”, which will feature works by Donny, works by me, and a fusion of words by us both.

Individually, I have a new story entitled “Rome’s Debris” that is to appear in Concordant Vibrancy 5. I will also be participating in the next installments of Divergent Ink.

The concept of Convoluted Prism has been reimagined, which is why I have not spoken much about it lately, but with the restructure, I am satisfied that it will produce a better product. I am also thinking about expanding the world of Delectable Things as well.

I also have a couple of future writings planned with my contemporary sister-in-write C. Desert Rose, which I am over the moon excited about.

All in all, I will be incredibly busy, but that’s no surprise. With me, there’s never a dull moment.

Adonis: Yes, “Blinks of Passion” is not due to come out just yet, but it is certainly in the works and I am excited to see where that will take us.

As far as any individual projects, I do have the newest contribution to Concordant Vibrancy 5: Extancy completed and submitted. This will most certainly be available when the book is available.
I also have a few things up my sleeve, although, I am not altogether certain when they will be completed. One will be a novel, the others will probably be a combination of short story collections and collaborative works.
I’ve been asked by some fans to create a S.O.R.I. 2 but that won’t be happening. S.O.R.I. was a once in a lifetime book and making a second installment would be doing it an injustice.

Okay, that wraps up this premiere episode of Claret Conversations. Thanks again to Authors Adonis Mann and Synful Desire for carving time out of their hectic schedules.

Alright folks … Ova and out!

... and we

Though this was not the first story I'd ever written it was the first story I'd ever had published.

"... and we" was my short story contribution to "Concordant Vibrancy: Unity" the very first book in the Concordant Vibrancy collection by All Authors Publishing House.
I am particularly proud of this story, mostly because of the memories attached to it. It was the story that paved my way into the writing world. It gave me a name in so many ways. Before "... and we" I was just Donny, the introverted gay man that no one knew, the loner that loved the written word but had no one to share that with. This story opened the door for me to not just achieve my life long dream, but connect with like minded people. Amazingly talented writers that accepted me just as I was. For this I will eternally be grateful to (1) All Authors Publishing House and its founders, and (2) "... and we".

Blurb:

Fierce decadence, blissful apex and euphoric ecstasy, all melded together in the whimsical melody that is us ... that is we! And we, delight in every second.

It is said that two is a crowd, and three is a party. In Ronan's case, three is nirvana.

Come take a trip down the sensual and sexual escapades of Ronan and his companions. "... and we" a short story of monumental impact.

Let's Play on Valentine's Day

This happens to be a freebie that I do not much speak of. Truth be told, I'm not certain why I don't.

This short story was written approximately 6 years ago on Valentine's Day. It was a spur of the moment, off the cusp tale that just came to me. It was short and sweet and a tiny bit erotic, but most importantly ... fun.
In this little story I dabbled with very light bondage. The sort that is meant for play and levity in a relationship, not as a sexual preference or fixation. I imagined a couple attempting to do something new on Valentine's Day thereby spicing up their every day sexual encounters with dalliance. Mirth, I find, in a relationship that may have become bland and repetitive can be just what the doctor ordered.
This is the premise on which "Let's Play on Valentine's Day" was written.

Blurb:

Who doesn’t love a bit of kinky play on Valentine’s Day?

Take a short and personal, yet ravishing trip to some eccentric word play made just for you on Valentine’s Day.

This flash fiction story gets up close and personal and takes the reader on a one of a kind journey through an entirely sexy Guessing Game.

It’s amazing what 1000 words can accomplish!

My Sort of Month: May is Short Story Month

Greetings,

Thank you for dropping by. I am grateful. ðŸ˜Š

May marks the commencement of one of my preferred months; Short Story Month. For those of you whom may know a little bit about me, I am very much a short story author. Short stories are my personal favorite as I find that when done properly they can deliver a great punch in a short amount of time.
To celebrate Short Story Month the All Authors Publishing House Authors have come together to write freebies for all to enjoy throughout the month. As for me, it would be those whom are inclined to my particular type of literature. ðŸ˜‰

In my time as an author I've branched out, explored other genres, and discovered that I am not the type of writer that can be contained or defined by one thing. Initially, in my writing career I believed that I was more of a LGBTQIA Sapiosexual Erotica author, however, in time I've found that I am many things. I encompass and expansion of genres, each one speaks about my soul and makeup to one degree or another. Among those things are some that, quite frankly, even I did not expect.
It was far past my imagination that I would be able to compose a drama of any sort, let alone a dark drama. Notwithstanding, I've learned that there can be sapiosexuality, profundity and the element of LGBTQIA in just about anything, dark drama not exempt.
With inspiration and a little vision one can orchestrate just about anything effectively.
Such was the case with my contribution to this year's Short Story Month. I'd like to present you with "Twin Flame Duplicity" by yours truly.

Blurb:

In a world such as this, can true love really exist? This is the question posed in Twin Flame Duplicity. In the heart and mind of a vastly intelligent individual, lady love is embodied in the person who holds Lovebug’s heart. For Sugar-beetle, love is dubious in nature and “hard to quantify”. Can one individual be irrevocably raptured whilst the other is ambivalent at best? Find out in Twin Flame Duplicity.

As mentioned formally, this is a free story. Therefore, it can be downloaded easily by visiting both the All Authors Publishing House website or my own. Following are the links:

As always, it was my pleasure sharing with you today. Please stay tuned throughout the month as I will be sharing more freebies of my own, as well as some from my publishing house comrades.

Sending Kind Regards,

Cover Reveal; Concordant Vibrancy 4

Today the members of the All Authors Family are celebrating the cover reveal of "Concordant Vibrancy 4: Inferno", the fourth installation of the Concordant Vibrancy anthology collection.

First, the blurb ...

There is a universal fascination associated with passion―its defining element, fire, as well as the unseen. Yet how many dare to trespass beyond the final product, exploring the ingredients which keep it sustainable?

This is the traverse of the fourth installment of the Concordant Vibrancy collection, presented by All Authors Publications and Promotions, entitled “Inferno”. Nine phenomenal talents diverge under one purpose: the creation of literary works guaranteed to set the mind, heart, and spirit ablaze.

Stories included:
Express-Oh” by Adonis Mann

Not Always Like This” by Carol Cassada

The Fireman” by Harmony Kent

The Complications of Fire” by Beem Weeks

Calliope’s Inferno” by C. Desert Rose

Moxy” by Y. Correa

Antipode” by Synful Desire

The Chronicles of Aidan” by Da’Kharta Rising, and

The Calefaction of Insight” by Queen of Spades.

Since January 2015 All Authors Publishing House has been exploring the elements of nature through the enterprise known as Concordant Vibrancy, an All Authors Anthology Collection.

Book One explored Unity under the theme question of "What elements contribute to the concept of unity?" The element being Earth. Through an array of tales, the authors explained what Unity meant to them.

Book Two examined Vitality. The theme question was, "What force drives your spirit?" The element was Air. Here the authors endeavored to answer the question with a combination of stories and essays.

Book Three looked at Lustrate using the theme question, "What embodies the composition of fluidity?" The element was water. Herein the authors spoke lucidly and clearly on what fluidity meant to them.

Book Four takes a peek at Inferno ... the element of Fire. It asks "What are the ingredients to a sustainable blaze?" By far the best of the collection, "Concordant Vibrancy 4: Inferno" is a demonstration of depth in thought and evolution in craft.

Now, without further ado and with great pride All Authors brings you the cover of "Concordant Vibrancy 4: Inferno".

BLOG TOUR DAY 1: (Me) Adonis Mann

Greetings and salutations, as the beautiful Charlotte once said.

Today is the first day of the "Pleasure Prints: Divergent Ink Book 2" Blog Tour and I have the amazing opportunity to be the first author featured this week. Because of this I have opted to chat a bit about The Rhapsody of Divergent.

Please enjoy!

Divergent, 1st and 3rd Definitions:
Diverging; differing; deviating.
Having no finite limits.

Rhapsody, 2nd Definition:
An ecstatic expression of feeling or enthusiasm.

The concept of time is subjective. Some view it as liniar, others as infinite and other still as spherical. Independently from most, I see time as the substratum of finite and innumerable moments. Like the negatives in a camera, each impression taken are a second in our lives and the foundation of the whole at the end of our days. So to say something like, “For a long time” or “As far back as I can recall” or perhaps, “I remember when” are to put limitations on the boundless.

What I can say is that, ever since cohesion and consciousness was born to my person I can recall but a singular and absolute truth … I was different.

Throughout my life I struggled with yet another truth, I was frequently misunderstood. Not in a mean or imperious way, rather in a way that caused me to have to oversimplify my intellect and diction in order to accommodate others’ understanding. It was no one’s fault, to be sure. It was just a fact of life in this life.

My life has mostly been full of happy moments, and for that I am grateful. However, the challenge of having to continuously feel like a misfit was like wearing a cape every day of my life. Like having to hide the most prevalent fingerprint of who I was.

This introspective debacle came to an end the day I met the All Authors family. The unveiling was like fresh air on a hot day. Like finally sipping on an ice cold cup of water after arduous labor.

The more I got to know the members, the more I understood that they understood me. Whether preordained or accidental, I am uncertain, but soon we found ourselves reveling in the beauty that profound conversation offers. And OH, how refreshing it was …!

One day I was presented with the opportunity to join the Divergent Ink venture. I was simultaneously humbled and honored to have been invited, and I immediately jumped at the chance to participate. You see, I automatically presumed that the foundation of Divergent Ink was to speak from the soul. To say things that I would not otherwise express on subjects that I would not otherwise speak on. The invitation was like a calling to my heart that filled me with elation and purpose.

I, in my heart of hearts, felt as though Divergent would give me the opportunity to express that which I’d secluded for so long that precluded me from conveying the words of my soul. Thus, the adventure began.

Two instalments in and many more to go, I am more than thrilled to continue on this path that time has paved for me. Now and forever, I will be celebrating the rhapsody of my divergence.

COMING SOON!

Answering a Question

Greetings everyone,

Recently I was posed a question. This question begged for one to share the acumen of richness in a few of one's stories. The question was ...

What top three works of yours could you never tire of reading?

To my surprise, but perhaps to no one else's, the answer came from a sole source. Said source being my short story collection, "Syncopation of Ravishing Intensity".

Blurb:

Winter Sensations …
Spring Overtures …
Summer Ruminations …
Fall Inhibitions …

The Syncopation of Ravishing Intensity is four seasons of discovery, lust, love and eroticism. A compilation of short stories that are sure to make you swoon in delight. Through a collection of erotic shorts drenched in whimsical prose, Adonis Mann takes us on a trip through a thrilling and provocative year. Stimulating the reader with stories like “Tyronian Rapture”, “Prismatic Slumber” and “Metamorphosis”, Mr. Mann brings sensual delight to every season. A jewel of an anthology for the LGBTQIA community, Syncopation of Ravishing Intensity is a must read for the lover of Erotica. Covering winter, spring, summer and fall, with one story for every month, Adonis gives you the gift of powerful diction and titillating tales. Come, sink in to SORI.

As luck would have it, the 3 stories that I wanted to mention also happened to be in the blurb. They are: Tyronian Rapture, Prismatic Slumber and Metamorphosis.
In order to answer the question at hand, one is obligated to share excerpts and then elaborate on the reasons why these stories call out to me so fantastically.

Tyronian Rapture
Excerpt

Summer 1841

Victorian England

Cherry Blossom petals from a tree procured in Japan carried adrift with the breeze, the smell of humidity and grass rode past, wafting across beautiful Regina’s face and all I could do was sit and stare. She was lovely in every sense of the limited word, for her resplendence was akin to a celestial being. An angel, to be sure; like none I had ever laid eyes upon. She took my breath away, and I was content to let her.
Her large eyes, chocolatey. Her skin, like the finest grade of caramel. Her unwieldy, black curls pulled to the back of her head in a bun. And the conundrum lie in my desire to see them lose and entangled in my hands. A coveting more trenchant than my knowledge that it was ungodly. I was captured by my dear Regina’s beauty. Her full lips longed to be licked, while I imagined that her smooth skin and voluptuous curves yearned to be caressed.
From a distance, I basked in her allurement, secretly—watching as she picked the wild flowers from the field in order to prepare a centerpiece for our dinner table for tea. If I could walk through the window ajar as a phantom, then as a phantom I would delight in her existence.
The impasse, my predilection. The penchant to fancy the reprobate. And, whilst my heart and mind remained enthralled by my point of desire, my body lay captive inside of this wretched place.
“Meredith,” Mother called, startling me from my hypnosis—Regina. Such was the effect she had on me. In my dreams, I touched every inch of her exquisite dark sheath, then kissed every fraction, ensuring to not miss a spot.
“Meredith, child, come here. Must you always sit there like a proper simpleton, staring upon nothingness? Come here at once!”
“Yes mother,” I replied as I lowered my head to the ground in reverence of her heed. A curtsey followed.
“Mary, do you see this here?” Mother asked Regina’s mother, the head handmaiden of our family home. Their family had been with ours for years, therefore a trusted lot. “This child is so restless and overzealous …” Mother indirectly reprimanded, addressing Mary while speaking of me, then ended her admonition with a tsk. “Meredith, why do you trot about like a boy? ‘Tis not the proper behavior for a lady.”
My reply was a humble shrug, and the lowering of my eyes to the ground. Mother never knew when to vacate a subject, therefore continued with her vexing drivel, concluding her parlance with a “… would you please sew it, darling? Thank you.” the statement was followed by a flip of the wrist in dismissal of sweet Mary whom then left the room.
“I do apologize Mother, I do not mean to cause you dismay-“
Rudely interjecting, Mother cut me off, “Shh, shh, shh, shush child. I’ve heard it all before. Perhaps, if you did not insist on being your father’s pet, and spent more time with the ladies of the house, you might learn how to behave as such.”
Bowing my head, I remained silent.

Why could I never stop reading Tyronian Rapture?

Well, the truth is that I am in love with its simplicity. This is the story about a girl finding herself in an antiquated world that believed that same sex love was a sin. And of course, that interracial love was a taboo affair. Yet, here we have a girl, Meredith, who is in love with a black servant who is also female. How does a love like this survive in a time where both things were so prohibited? Nevertheless, Meredith and Regina find a way.

Prismatic Slumber
Excerpt

I dream in color. Like a vivid, luminescent prism, everything comes to thriving life, and then there he is with me.
Sleigh bells dangling from the edge of the bed jingle whenever I slide deep inside of his scrumptious cleft.
Silver tinsel, tangled around our feet.
How did it get there? When did we play with it? It doesn't matter.
Only partially covered by a Santa Claus fleece blanket, our skin touches underneath—intense heat emanating from it. In the background Bobby Helms “Jingle Bell Rock” plays, only loud enough to drown our elate moaning.
Yet, I want more. I pine for more than just his body and skin, I thirst for the intimacy of his presence; for the puissance of his soul. More than that, I endeavor to monopolize it. Make him, in every sense of the word, mine and mine alone—for the keeping.
Droplets of perspiration trickle down my chest as I drift my manhood in and out of his dewy cavity, then land on his backside and slowly stream onto the blanket.
Even in my state of deep dormancy I can smell the mustiness of our combined scents and it entices every fragment of my being at a cellular level. Every hair on my body stands on end.
Perhaps, it’s the ferociousness of our intimate encounter, perhaps the fact that I’d been longing for this moment for quite some time. Either way, he is mine now, and I am relishing in the satisfaction that only he can bring—my night time companion.
Why is he only with me in my dreams? When did he start visiting me here? Where did he come from? All inconsequential questions. They had no place here in my Holiday Repose.

Why could I never stop reading Prismatic Slumber?

The answer is that I am enamored with the effervescent nature of the story. Is it a dream, is it real? Or, is it a realistic dream? No one can really tell. All we know is that De’marcus' forever love is the one named Holiday, who visits him in the most intimate of moments. And with him, Holiday brings both cheer and ravishment.

Metamorphosis
Excerpt

I am a butterfly.
The beauty of life is found in the mundane matters of evolution. Therefore, I am a butterfly.
When I was an egg, the shell kept me from breaking free. It prohibited me from being whom I was meant to be. Yet, there was a miraculous event occurring; I was developing. Readying for the inevitable exodus which was about to transpire.
I suppose the world was not ready for me then. Perhaps, preparing for the spectacular event which was about to unfold.
I was being born. Born anew. Born from freedom, from evolution, from self.
My development came in stages—each one in the form of a man—every one more powerful than the last. Making me stronger, until it eventually transmuted me into the man I am today.
A Pieridae. Mystical, magical and powerful.

Why could I never stop reading Metamorphosis?

Metamorphosis is a coming of age story. One in which the main character, Adrian, describes his adventure utilizing the terms associated with the evolution of a butterfly. It is an entertaining and fanciful tale of growth, being gay and learning to love himself just as he is.

Well everyone, there you have it. My answer to what stories I could never get tired of reading. I hope you enjoyed reading this blog post as much as I enjoyed writing it.
Have a beautiful day.

Best,
Adonis Mann

It Has Come ... Reversal

What else can we say, but, “It's the official release day”? It’s really exciting to start the new year off on a high note, regardless of...
